The Tavistock Clinic in England specialized in transgender care. When it began, the treatment was exclusively focused on talk therapy for patients with gender dysphoria. The goal was to help children and adults work through their discomfort with their natural sex.

Over time transgender activists colonized the Center, changed that treatment regime and morphed it into aggressive gender affirmation therapy and the rapid medicalization of young patients. 

Luckily, whistleblowers came forward. They revealed the cursory intake procedures and the common practice of prescribing puberty blockers, cross hormone drugs and devising a surgical plan during the first visit to the clinic, sometimes within an hour.

The government ignored the warnings, but luckily for children across Europe a national parents group sued and used litigation to expose the abuses.  The public was alarmed by the lack of responsible care and demanded that the clinic be closed. Transparency forced by litigation has saved thousands of children from unnecessary and detrimental lifetime medicalization.

The Cass Review, a comprehensive investigation that includes studies of the nearly 10,000 children ‘treated’ at the clinic was recently released. It details the serious harm caused by the transgender ideologues that colonized the clinic and steered it away from beneficial talk therapy.  Among the findings: 

• Suicide among transgender children is similar to the general population, except for boys who receive vaginoplasty surgery.  In that case, the suicide rate doubles.  It seems dealing with an open wound and multiple surgeries creates unimaginable misery for those children.

• Puberty blockers cause many health problems, among them - stunted growth, bone and cardiovascular injury and lack of sexual function and infertility. 

• A 15 year study of 2977 children aged 10-26 children indicates that if left alone with talk therapy, 96% of children grow out of their dysphoria and become accepting and happy with their sex. 

• The effects of puberty blockers and cross hormone treatment are not reversible after 4-6 months.  Lifelong damage is caused. 

 

Today countries across Europe are banning puberty blockers for children.  They have determined after medical investigations and scientific study that they are harmful.  Sadly, radical Democrats are ignoring the warnings for our children. They have adopted a policy of ‘full steam ahead’.

Litigation by a national group exposed the unethical and appalling lack of responsible care at Tavistock Center, but Rhode Island’s newly passed Shield Law prevents similar litigation. 

​

That’s why I objected to the Shield legislation. My microphone should not have been cut off.  I should not have been silenced.  This is information that the Representatives and all Rhode Islanders should know.  Our children deserve to have the protection that litigation may provide.  Now they will be at the mercy of activists. It is shameful! 

 

This clip from the ‘debate’ on the Shield bill reveals how determined the radical Democrats are to stop any discussion of their transgender agenda.  Representative Jay Edwards (Tiverton) in concert with the Speaker has used the parliamentary tactic of alleging that my speech is nongermane over and over and over again this session.  Edwards complains, the Speaker, as prearranged, agrees, and it is not debatable. If I challenge the ruling, the Speaker asks that members of the House, dominated by compliant Democrats, to vote on his decision-how do you think that vote will go?

Our children and families deserve better.  We should be listening to the science and banning puberty blockers.  The fact that our state is instead protecting these practices from the scrutiny and transparency made possible by litigation tells you what they think about you and your children.
